Hi everyone! This is my first blog post and I’ll start by introducing myself. My name is Matt (you may have seen my name on the blog before), I’m 22 years young, born and raised in the Bay Area, and graduated from UC Davis this past June. I have been assisting Amanda at Kuzak’s Closet for almost a year now and have worked on many different organizing and Estate Sales. I thought I had seen it all but I was wrong! This past Thursday and Friday was my first time helping with Estate Liquidations, one at a condo in Los Altos and the ... Keep Reading >>
It Pays to be Organized
Danish Dining Table with 9 Chairs, $2,200 on Craigslist Whether it's holding an Estate Sale or listing items on Craigslist and eBay, I am always selling something online for my clients. Lately I feel like a selling machine! The back of my truck is always full of treasures which is fun for me and I love that it puts money back in my client's pockets.Putting these posts together is fun for me because it helps me create a history and timeline of what has been sold (I have spreadsheets but blogging is much more fun!) 10 on 10: My Organized Week
It's been a few months since I participated in A Bit of Sunshine's 10 on 10 so today I am sharing 10 photos that sum up my week as a professional organizer. I have spent my week working with a self confessed shopaholic, organizing paperwork and a home office, managing a local estate liquidation and prepping a hoarder's home for an estate sale. Let's just say there hasn't been a dull moment! Before my Monday session I hit Home Depot bright and early to pick up some storage bins and I was pleasantly surprised with the selection ... A Toy Story
Today I wanted to follow up with the second part to the organizing sessions I had with a new client. When we met for our initial consultation she had three trouble spots in her home: the basement, the living room, and her daughter's room. Matt and I tackled her basement first (I posted those before and afters last week) and came back for a second session to declutter and organizing the toys that were taking over the rest of her home. ... NAPO Conference
Over the weekend I headed to Napa to the annual regional organizing conference with my organizing buddies. I'm sure you are thinking that we all get together and compare label makers and have races to see who can sort through a box in record speed but in reality it is a great event for professional development. There were over 150 local organizers present and I left with some great ideas and a list of to-dos to improve and expand my business.I drove up with my friend Lori from More Time for You. It was great to chat about the ... Keep Reading >>
Basement Transformation
There is a dumping ground in every home. It's the place where all of the things that we don't know what to do with end up. Last week I worked with a client who had a dumping ground in her basement. (It is weird for me to say basement because they are so rare in California). It was filled with baby items that her children had outgrown, toys that were given to her kids that she was hiding from them (but then forgot to give to them), holiday decorations, linens, and much much more. ... Studio Makeover
A client of mine is a professional doll maker and teacher. She teaches classes all over the world and from time to time in her home based studio. She made attempts to organize the space a few years ago but wasn't able to find a system that was functional and professional looking. She asked me to stop by for a consultation and immediately I noticed the lack of continuity in the space. The mix match of furniture gave the eye a feeling of clutter and the pieces she had didn't take advantage of all of the storage space the room ... Keep Reading >>
Kids Artwork Organization Idea
Organizing kids artwork is a BIG challenge for most of my clients. Recently I had a client ask me to organize her son's artwork and come up with a system that would be easy for him to enjoy and preserve the pieces for years to come. She dropped off a box full of their favorite pieces from preschool along with these nice art portfolios from The Container Store. She told me that I didn't need to use them if I had a better storage option but after doing some research online I decided that they were perfect. I like them because ... Keep Reading >>
