My goal every new year is to take more time out to just chill out and so far this year I’m off to a good start. I’ve been a champ at turning my phone off at 6pm so I won’t get spend time taking calls after hours and I’m being more proactive with scheduling time for myself and all of those appointments that I always jam into my schedule. You know, making time to do what is important.
I read something over the holidays about a professor asking his class is a jar full of golf balls was full and they said yes. To see if it would change their reaction he poured seashells inside of the jar, filling it to the brim and then asked if it was full and they said yes. Finally, he added sand to the jar and filled it up and asked again if it was full and they all answered yes. The exercise was to illustrate that your life has important things like family, friends, and hobbies that will make your life full, the rest is just small stuff that will always try to fill up your time but you can’t let it. The article really hit home for me and I’m realizing that life is a constant exercise of figuring out your balance and what your limits are. I have been writing about trying to achieve work life balance on my blog for 5 years and I promise that I will still be working on it in 5 more. I’m learning that I’m not a failure but rather a success that I am aware that I need to work on it.
In an effort to find this balance I’ve been trying to make an effort to spend more time with my friends and at events that are just for fun. It seems like these days everything I do I’m being paid to do. Obviously being paid isn’t a bad thing, don’t get me wrong, it just means that I am “on” all of the time. Being self-employed and employing 14 people there are so many pressures to keep the revenue coming in but sometimes it’s just nice to have a fun afternoon out with the girls for brunch, especially if it is at The Four Seasons.
They started a Sunday brunch club that they are calling #qbrunchclub and it is just amazing. I met up with a handful of my blogger pals to dig in and we had a really nice time. The deal for the brunch is that you get an appetizer, a main course, all you can eat desserts and bottomless Prosecco for $26. Talk about a deal, I can hardly get breakfast with a coffee in downtown Los Altos for that!
The chef knew we were a group of bloggers so he brought out each entree for us to sample, talk about VIP! We also got to sample some specialty brunch cocktails with our Prosecco…
I opted for the Sunrise Bellini…
When the food came out we had to get our cameras out, after all that is what bloggers do! It’s always fun to be in the company of a group that enjoys photography and filters as much as I do.
The french toast was the perfect size, talk about savory…
The lemon ricotta pancakes were a crowd favorite, there was a little blackberry compote on the bottom that was a delicious surprise!
Chicken and waffles, you can’t go wrong with this classic!
A yummy omelette, I need to make time to make one of these for myself every morning for breakfast.
And let’s talk desserts! Talk about Heaven! Everything was delicious but these little key lime cheesecakes were my favorite.
It was a great experience with the girls and since then I’ve been back with my husband and a handful of friends. They only offer it on Sunday’s so be sure to check it out this winter. Wish me luck on my resolutions and I will be back soon with some great organizing posts, I’ve been editing photos and have 6 posts in the works!
