Last weekend the Kuzak Closet gals joined me for a fun night out at The Four Seasons for their Women and Whisk(e)y event in Palo Alto. I’ve attended several events at The Four Seasons and they never disappoint! This particular event intrigued me because I’ve never really had whisky on it’s own so (aside from a few bad decisions in college) so I was interested in tasting it and trying something new.
The hotel brought in a brand ambassador from Glenfiddich Whisky and she was a great speaker. She really knew her stuff and started with the basics, the history, and how to taste. The first thing I learned at the event is that the “e” is optional depending on where you live so technically it can be spelled with or without it. Perfect for the average speller that I am!
As we tasted the whisky I learned that I can’t really handle it on it’s own but I could taste the difference between the three selections. My favorite was the 15 year (age based on the youngest whisky in it). The hotel bar concocted 2 whisky cocktails for us to sip during the presentation along with the tasting and I really enjoyed it. It actually inspired me to think about branching out this fall from my typical happy hour glass of wine and try something more complex and sophisticated. Here is a compilation of cocktails that I think I can handle making on my own…
(Clockwise from left to right)
Strawberry Basil Bourbon ~ Marcus Samuelsson
I love that this cocktail uses sparkling water, it sounds so refreshing!
Rosemary Peach Maple Leaf Cocktail ~ Buzzfeed
Something tells me the maple in this would be perfect for fall!
Blackberry Whiskey Lemonade ~ Life as a Strawberry
The simple syrup in this sounds really good, would also be great as a “mocktail”!
Blackberry Whiskey Smash ~ DomesticateMe
Lemons, mint, and blackberries, this might as well be a morning smoothie!
Blushing Bourbon ~ The Gouda Life
Anything with “blushing” in the title wins me over!
Old Fashioned ~ Gimme Some Oven
Can’t mess with a classic!
All of the Kuzak’s Closet gals (minus Jennalynn because she is only 20 years old) were able to come along with me. The event started right after our Los Altos teak-tastic estate sale ended on Friday so we quickly got dolled up and headed over to the hotel. It was a nice way to decompress after a busy and very successful sale.
It was the first event that Hope and Sarah were able to attend on behalf of Kuzak’s Closet so it was great to have them join in! The event was outside on the patio at Quattro and it was the perfect temperature and a real treat to take a seat and relax and get to take our minds off of work after a busy week.
Do any of you reading this drink whisky or bourbon or scotch? If you do, do you drink it on the rocks or do you mix up a cocktail? I’d love to know your preferences and tips!
Our first cocktail was a sweeter drink, it was yellow in color and had a sugar rim. It was really tasty and I could’ve enjoyed a second one. Our second cocktail was a spicy strawberry whisky concoction and that was also really tasty. The fresh muddled strawberry mixed in was very yummy.
Also yummy were the small bites and appetizers. I didn’t have a chance to snap a photo of the bacon wrapped dates because I ate them too quickly but this chocolate macadamia nut layered treat was the perfect end to a fun night out.
Cheers to trying new things, especially when it comes to cocktails!
The last shot of the night! We spend so much time together working so this event was a fun reward and a great experience for us to spend time together just for fun. I’m looking forward to many more girls nights out at The Four Seasons this fall!
