When I’m asked about my job I always tell people that I own a business called Kuzak’s Closet but it wasn’t until I was sitting across from my business expert Tari during business planning meeting going over budgets did I really believe it. I’ve been doing this 10 years and lately it has really sunk in that I have a real business. Everyday my clients depend on me, the realtors and lawyers we work with depend on me, the shoppers depend on me, and most importantly my staff depend on me.
The theme of April was getting down to business. I dealt with taxes, quarterly payments, and LLC payments. Budgeting for next year’s taxes along with the expenses that this year will bring and updated all of the service rates and contracts. I attended the NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) conference in LA mid-month and it really gave me the momentum to accomplish all of the above and then some. I’m so thankful to have professional development opportunities that push me beyond what my daily experiences can. Just when I think I’ve got Kuzak’s Closet figured out it continues to grow and I need to adjust to keep up.
Aside from professional development the month of April was also filled with organizing sessions. Year after year it is one of my favorite months because so many of my clients have us back for maintenance sessions to get them and track and new clients contact us to give them the fresh slate they’ve been craving. Below is one of the before and afters from the month. Tammy and I purged and organized this teenage bedroom in 6 hours, it was such a blast.
I’ve also been working on several projects with The Container Store. This is a peek at a closet I designed and had installed at The Forum in Cupertino for one of my estate clients. It has been great to add value to clients I am already serving with this additional resource.
It was VW Mania in April as well! A client in San Mateo asked me to sell their 1974 VW Beetle and their 1967 Karmaan Ghia for them. What a hoot! We’ve had so much fun with these cars!
The bug is still pending offers so if you are interested let me know! The same can’t be said for the Ghia, a regular estate shopper named Rich snagged it and I’m pretty sure he is still smiling. What a gorgeous car!
The estate business was jammed with 2 killer estate sales in Sunnyvale and Los Altos Hills as well as 7 estate liquidations. It really never gets old seeing all of the homes that I get to see doing this job. I’m still drooling over this view from yesterday’s private liquidation sale in Menlo Park on the Sharon Heights Country Club…
The views from LA weren’t so bad either. Taylor and I attended the NAPO National Conference for 3 days and had a blast. We were able to meet with other like-minded professionals, attend classes on topics like Hoarding, Photo Organizing, and Relocations. I wrote a whole blog post about it here just in case you missed it.
Harper was just as cute as can be in April. Her 10th birthday is this weekend and I can hardly believe it. She makes me so happy, I can hardly stand it. I only wish she had better manners so she could become our estate sale mascot and come to work with me.
My friend Larry closed a chapter in his life by moving from San Francisco to New York City. He’s been apart of my life for the last 8 years, his mom was a client of mine in Chicago and we became fast friends, more like family. I was sad to put him on the plane but also happy for his new journey in the Big Apple. He’s got a great job waiting for him and I hope to visit him soon.
Before he left I helped him sell his car and Taylor and I ventured to San Francisco and helped him hold a pop-up sidewalk sale. It was SO MUCH FUN! I am kind of thinking of adding to my service list!
We spent the day together before he left with a trip to Ritual Coffee in San Francisco, a much-needed shopping trip to Nordstrom, and dinner at the Los Altos Grill complete with a farewell hot fudge Sunday.
It’s alway fun to write these posts and look back at what has been accomplished but now it is time to look forward into May. I’ve got a vacation coming up, a much needed one with family so stay tuned to Instagram for that. Also, the organizing calendar is now completely booked, we have 4 estate sales on the calendar and more estate liquidations that you’ll be able to handle!
