TGIF! I’m wrapping up another busy week with a quick DIY project that anyone can do at home. I want to inspire you to look for ways to repurpose the old, especially with all of the estate liquidations we have on the calendar next week! There will be 3 opportunities for you to come and dig for treasure at homes in the San Francisco Bay Area!
I’m always finding fun scraps of wood and odds and ends at my estate projects. Typically I talk buyers into making things out of them but for once I brought a piece home with me to tackle a do-it-yourself project of my own!
This vintage cupboard door was hanging out in a garage and I wanted to save it from going to the dump. It is a great size, about 32 inches tall and 18 inches wide. I love the crooks and crannies and the old hinges on the side.
I bought a set of Martha Steward stencils awhile back for my craft kit. They come in handy for estate sale signs if you know what I mean!
I debated a few of my favorite sayings for the sign and settled on the title of one of my favorite songs, You Make My Dreams Come True by Hall and Oates. It played at the church right before I walked down the aisle at our wedding almost 8 years ago. The beat always puts an extra pep in my step!
After I stenciled out the words and created a layout I painted around them with orange craft paint. Orange is the accent color in our bedroom and I thought it would make a nice sentimental addition.
I originally thought I would leave the original wood as the letters but it looked a little too halloween. It needed something…
I added some antique white paint to help the title of my favorite song stand out.
Once the sign was dry I gave it a more finished look with a coat of glossy spray paint. Sometimes a little shine is all a project needs!
Pretty cute and it’s perfect in our bedroom…
It looks really nice with our bedding and my DIY headboard made out of an old door!
I hope you all have a good weekend! I wish I could say that I could sleep in and enjoy my DIY sign but I’ll be working hard on a relocation all weekend with Taylor in Portola Valley. Hopefully I can capture some of the action on Instagram! Stay connected!

So cute. Now that Hall and Oates song is stuck in my head…that’s ok though because I love that song and the old door. 🙂
No sleeping in this weekend…Helped hubby with a job. Sounds as if you are super busy but that’s good for KC.
Hope you guys get to rest soon.
Wish I could have been at all the sales. *sigh*
