Dear Amanda
I’m reaching out because I need your expert advise! We just moved into an awesome apt but can’t yet afford a proper armoire for clothing, ect. but I was wondering if in the meantime you could give me a tip on a cheap, organized way to store things (mainly clothing ) that has nowhere to go. I HATE clutter and I can’t stand looking at the pile along the wall in our bedroom anymore!
Thanks so very much,

(the current storage solution)
Beth,
Thank you so much for your question. I have been thinking about your clutter issue and I have been on the hunt for inexpensive storage products that will hide the clutter and can be repurposed in your home when you do invest in an armoire. Some of these solutions may seem limiting but that should just encourage you to sort, purge, and maintain!
I decided to take a trip to The Container Store to take a peak at the products they have in stock for some inspiration. If you don’t live near a Container Store and don’t feel comfortable shopping online, similar products can be found at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Walmart. I hope I found something that will help solve your clutter situation.
Thank so for writing!
Amanda
Okay, lets break it down…
These colored drawers are a nice solution and the tinted fronts will hide the clutter that is inside. They come in a variety of sizes and colors (muted gray is nice) and can be stacked. When you are done with them each drawer can be used for under-bed storage in your closet for handbags and overflow clothing.
These white and black stackable drawers offer a similar solution. I wasn’t crazy about them at first glance but then I noticed that they are really deep offering lots of great storage. The drawers are also sturdy and they come in a variety of sizes so you could store jeans in one and socks in another.
These clear drawers are also great, they are high quality and can easily be repurposed to a craft room, garage, or kitchen. The upside is that they are clear so you can see what is in them, the downside is that they are clear so you can see what is in them, ha! Depending on your style and preferences these might be able to show you where everything is or not be the right fit because they would reveal the clutter inside.
Here is a closer look…
The Elfa mesh drawer units are also really nice. I have several clients that use these inside of their closets for socks, undies, and pjs. I love the platinum look and think it is most appropriate for a bedroom. Once you get an armoire you can repurpose this into a home office, kitchen, or garage.
These portable clothes closets are quite nice and can be perfect for hiding things away. If this route looks appealing to you I would use the bar to hang clothing and place small bins on the bottom for items that would best fit in a drawer.
These shoe and sweater bags could also hang nicely inside of the portable closet or inside of a real closet if you have space. Stack jeans and tops in the larger bag and socks and pjs in the smaller bag. These can be quite versatile in the long run and collapse into a small box that is easy to store.
I hope my advice and personal shopping helps! I will be sharing more of my favorite products on a virtual shopping edition of Hot or Not next week so stay tuned! If you have an organizing question for me please don’t hesitate to send me an email at www (dot) kuzakscloset (at) gmail (dot) com!

I would be careful of where and what you place in the clear ones. I had one stored near a window that got lots of sun. My favorite Nantucket sweatshirt ended up with many, irregular sun faded spots and I couldn’t wear again.

Yes, the clear have their advantages and their disadvantages. I typically prefer my things to be hidden and go for color.

Great ideas! I love the clear ones with the pull down door! They’re so handy! And I love the mesh drawers/tower. We have something similar for our laundry and it makes it so easy to sort!

I got a tone of the colored drawers in muted gray. Love them. Will be working on my basement closet solution all weekend
