Many times when I help my clients organize their kitchens and refrigerators, I notice that they don’t have their freezers stocked properly. They either don’t have anything in it or it is stocked so full that they can’t get anything out. The key to using your freezer effectively is having it organized properly so you know what you have so you can pop it out and prepare a meal in an instant. Make sure to keep like items together (fruit, veggies, soups, desserts, breads, dinners, etc.). Go through your freezer on a regular basis, try to toss any of the items that have freezer burn and make a list of items you need. Try to buy things when they go on sale, you will save money at the register and down the road when you aren’t ordering take-out a couple times per week.
My freezer is usually stocked with easy meals from the Trader Joe’s freezer section and homemade favorites but now that I have been on a low carb diet since May I have had to make adjustments. It has been especially hard to find quick breakfast and lunch options (I am a cereal and PB&J girl) but I have figured out what I like. I am going back to the doctor on Monday to be reevaluated and I will find out how much longer I need to keep up my low carb lifestyle and if I need to have any further surgeries. Until then, here is a look at what is in my freezer…
Freezer Favorites…
Morning Star Veggie Chik Patties…
I heat these up for a quick lunch and dip them in mustard. It might sound gross but
it helps me tolerate my diet and keep me full until dinner.
Trader Joe’s Meatballs…
I heat them up with a little bit of marinara sauce and fresh Parmesan cheese.
There are about 20 in the bag so I just take out a few at a time.
Yoplait Triple Berry Smoothies…
I know they have a little bit more sugar that I am supposed to eat but there are some
days that I need the extra boost of energy.
Van’s Gluten Free Waffles…
I only treat myself to these babies a few times per month and they are totally worth it.
They have a little more crunch than a regular ego.
Premade Meals…
Instead of stocking my freezer with homemade mac and cheese and
goulash I have been making protein stocked meals like my Tandoori
Chicken in big batches and freezing them for an easy dinner.
Green Giant Veggies…
While Chris is enjoying his side of pasta or bread I
and have broccoli and cheese. Sometimes I eat this for lunch too.
Morning Star Veggie Breakfast Patties…
These babies help me choke down my eggs at breakfast (I am not a big egg fan).
Veggie Burgers…
Are you sending a theme yet? Veggie freezer staples have been key to me
staying on track. They heat up so quick and they don’t give me the
sensation of eating real food.
