Taryn from Design, Dining, + Diapers is sharing the cutest recipe for cheeseburger cupcakes (yes, they do exist) and the details of her families obsession with Washington State University. Stop by her blog and say hello and stay in touch via Facebook.
I’m so happy that Amanda chose Touchdown Week for her series this quarter because football happens to be a really big deal in my family (and that’s an understatement). You see, my husband played football for Washington State University, so the word ‘obsession’ has taken on a whole new meaning around our house. From the time spring training starts until the Super Bowl, our house is all about the pigskin. In honor my husband’s love of football, I even had Cougar garters made for our wedding and a football helmet groom’s cake. Now that is dedication!
This year will be a very special football season because it will be our daughter’s first time experiencing the great all-American game. Even though I graduated from Arizona (Go Cats!) I consider myself a Coug by marriage and we will raise our daughter in a WSU home (and we take that seriously, JK, but not really). We have big plans for this fall, first up is a trip over to Pullman, Washington to show Baby E the stadium her Daddy played in and next is a trip to San Diego to see the Cougars on the road. Yup, she is all ready in her WSU cheer uniform to root on the Cougs!
Not only is football a great family pastime, it is also the time for some good BBQ and tailgating. We go to a lot of football events throughout the year and I’m always trying to come up with something new and exciting to bring. I was at a bake sale a while back and I came across these dessert sliders that were so adorable and I knew instantly that I had to try them out at our next BBQ. I gave them my own little twist and I love how they turned out.
I have brought these to two BBQ’s and every time they are a complete hit. Both kids and adults love them and they aren’t too bad tasting either. But then again, how can you go wrong with cupcake and brownie together in one bite?
Is your mouth watering yet? I thought so.
Here is a quick rundown on how to put these little guys together!
What you need:
-1 Box of Yellow Cake Mix
-1 Box of Brownie Mix
-Green and Red Decorative Frosting
-White Sprinkles
How to assemble to cupcakes:
Make a batch of yellow cupcakes. Note: Only fill the cups ½ full so they were a little smaller than normal cupcakes. Once they cool, cut them in half and set aside.
Make a batch of brownies. NOTE: Used a 9 X 13 pan so they are on the thinner side. Once cooled, cut them into 1.5-2″ circles. I didn’t have a cookie cutter that size so I ended up using the lid off of a cooking spray because it was the perfect size 🙂
Place a brownie circle in the middle of the cupcake halves.
Decorate the top of the brownie with colored frosting (red for ketchup, yellow for mustard and green for lettuce).
Place the other end of the cupcake back on top the brownie to complete the hamburger.
To top it off place white sprinkles on top to look resemble sesame seeds.
And, you’re done!
If you are looking for something fun to bring to your next tailgating party try these little dessert sliders. They won’t disappoint!
