My twin 3 year old nieces are in the home stretch of potty training and they are so elated about big girl undies. We skyped this week and they showed me their cute little bottoms without diapers, it was hysterical to see their excitement as they shook their booties on the camera for me. I told them when I come to visit in a few weeks I would bring them VERY special big girl undies and they squealed in delight. (I found the cutest pink ruffle undies at a boutique in San Carlos, they are going to love them! )
All this talk about big girl undies got me thinking about real big girl undies. As an organizer I find out a lot about my clients, even what kind of big girl undies they wear. I find that so many woman out there get lazy about what they are wearing under all of their beautiful clothes. When does that 3 year old excitement die off and we settle for 6 packs of Hanes Her Ways?
When I was a personal shopper I was trained by a woman named Linda at Marshall Field’s. She had been in the business for 40 years and was very successful. One of the first lessons she taught me was how important it is to sell your clients proper undergarments because they are the foundation to our wardrobes. She was so right, I mean why wear a beautiful sweater or a pretty dress over undies that don’t fit properly or that show signs of wear and tear.
Here are my favorite tips for finding the perfect big girl undies and keeping them fresh and new…
Get Measured Yearly…
Our bodies change all of the time making it so important to get properly measured for a bra each and every year. I go to Bloomingdale’s because they have the most wonderful bra specialist but I would suggest going to your favorite department store and feeling out the staff, usually your best bet is the little old lady working in the intimate section, they know their stuff.

Don’t be afraid to spend some dough…
When it comes to bras my opinion is that you get what you pay for. My Favorite Bra is the custom contour bra by Waocol, it runs $45 per bra, I purchase 3 bras each time I get fitted which is twice a year.
Beware of Victoria’s Secret!
I like the quality of Victoria’s Secret but beware of getting measured there. The sizing is a bit different than the other bra companies, so when they measure you the size might not be globally accurate making other makes and model less comfortable (prompting you to go back to VS to buy more!).
Be realistic about size…
Don’t feel bad if you are wearing a bigger size undie than you would like, fit is the most important aspect and nothing is worse than undies that don’t fit properly!
Take Care!
To keep your undies looking good try washing them separate on a gentle cycle with detergent formulated for delicate items. Let them air dry.

Remember Your Priorities!
Fit, Style, then Price (in that order)! Don’t get all hot and bothered by the price of a good pair of undies or a proper fitting bra. It is important to find something that fits properly and looks good, remember they are the foundation for your wardrobe!
So true, nothing worse than uncomfortable undies!
Love the pics of your nieces, adorable!
Bras that don't fit well drive me nuts! Nothing worse than the girls spilling out when you bend over. ; ) Your nieces are a-DORABLE!
Macy's is also a great place for bras. Their staff can size you in store and they had more than a few of my size to choose from. I wear a 32DD, not exactly the easiest size to find. I can't tell you the difference it made to finally get new bras that fit!
I had forgotten how much I love these pictures of the girls! So cute! Great post and advice today Midgemaster!
